Tidings of comfort and joy.

We thank each of you for your kind thoughts and prayers for our family this Christmas. Many of you have stopped us in stores or dropped us notes to let us know youíre still remembering Evan, you canít imagine how much that means. Try as we might to get into the spirit of the holidays there is and will always be an underlying sadness without our wonderful boy.

Our church has four beautiful icons above the altar. One of those icons depicts St. John and it carries a small plaque on the side dedicated to Evan. Evanís name means ďJohnĒ and Father Bob thought it was appropriate that Evan be honored in this way, a thoughtful and generous gesture. During the Christmas Eve Mass there was a candle lit on the altar next to the icon in memory of Evan.

St. John was the bearer of light. A witness to Jesus. Evan was not a saint and definitely had his doubts in God. You can imagine how a child might feel knowing that he is dying and that his prayers are going unanswered.

And yet, Evan was a bearer of light and joy. His story and his words touched people to their core. He left an indelible mark on this world. I believe with my whole heart that God spoke to all of us through Evan in his final weeks. ďIíll see you in every day, in every flower, in every moving tree, in every miracle of nature.Ē How many of us have recalled those words over the past couple of years?

Evan is still sending incredible signs to us. Not just to Jeff and I, but to others who pray to him. Iím not sure itís right to actually pray to Evan, but a lot of people tell us that they do. Iím guessing Evan must have a sit down with Jesus about once a week to go over his list of intercessions.

Evanís spirit is all around us. All we have to do is look, listen, and believe.

Best wishes to you and your family for a happy, healthy and blessed new year.
